HABC Level 1 Award in principles of Health and Safety in the workplace


COURSE OVERVIEW
 
  • This qualification is designed for those learners either currently working in any environment, or those returning or starting work and wishing to gain a nationally recognised qualification in health and safety.
     
  • The objective of the qualification is to prepare learners to progress into further training.
     
  • The qualification provides learners with knowledge in health and safety and enables them to understand that health and safety is the responsibility of everyone within a business.

COURSE PREREQUISITE

 
 
  • There are no pre-requisites for this qualification, however it is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

COURSE ASSESSMENT

  • The qualification is assessed by a multiple-choice question examination.
  • The examination for this qualification contains 15 questions that must be completed within 30 minutes.
  • Successful learners must demonstrate knowledge and understanding across the qualification syllabus and achieve a minimum pass mark of 67%.
  • Completed examination papers should be returned to HABC for marking and results will then be provided to the Centre afterwards.

  • Define the key terms used in health and safety.
  • State the main legal responsibilities of employers and employees with respect to health, safety and welfare in the workplace.
Understand the scope of hazards and risks in the workplace with reference to.
 
  • Slips trips and falls.
  • Working at heights.
  • Manual handling.
  • Machinery and vehicles.
  • Electricity.
  • Fire.
  • Stress.
Understand the range of workplace conditions that can affect health and safety.
 
  • Identify the benefits of maintaining a tidy, well organised workplace.
  • State the importance of maintaining suitable environmental conditions.
  • Outline the welfare facilities that should be provided.
  • Identify the different classes of health and safety signage.

  • Half Day Course.
